Dr. Bryan Zimmerman was born an only child in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, and resides in Suffolk, Virginia. Currently serving as the Vice President of Medical Quality with Operation Smile Inc. since 2019. He previously served with Bon Secours Mercy Health System as a Quality and Patient Safety Director. In 2020 earned his Doctorate in Strategic Leadership of Healthcare from Regent University in Virginia Beach and subsequently achieved certification in Epidemiology. Married to Melinda Zimmerman and have four children: Tyler, LeeAnn, Xander, and Avery.

Retired in 2017 as a Senior Chief, having completed a 26-year career with Naval Special Warfare in Little Creek, Virginia. His Navy career was primarily devoted to serving as an Independent Duty Corpsman in Special Operations (IDC, which is the DoD version of a civilian Physician Assistant) with a specialty in combat trauma care and tactics, completing multiple combat engagements. As an IDC, responsible for all aspects of medical science and care for upwards of 500 Special Operators conducting worldwide combat and clandestine operations, including minor surgical procedures, diagnoses, and various treatment modalities.

An active member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Special Operations Medical Association, and the UDT/SEAL Association. A volunteer with Bluefield University Men’s Soccer Program and the Special Operations command-sponsored Honor Foundation that prepares Operators transitioning out of active service into the civilian sector. Awarded numerous medals for Valor in combat and a Gold Medal recipient of the 1995 Marine Corps Super Squad Competition. A recognized expert of Waterborne Warfare and Survival tactics.

A Certified member of the International Board of Medicine and Surgery (Global Medicine Specialist, Quality); Institute for Healthcare Improvement Certified in Patient Safety, Healthcare Quality and Quality Improvement. Trained and certified in LEAN Six Sigma and Team STEPPS. Department of Defense Instructor of Tactical Combat Casualty Care.

In his personal time, he enjoys traveling, Pittsburgh Steelers football, soccer, diving, kayaking, running, endurance-focused fitness, and golf.
