Operation Smile Academy (OSA) is an all-access virtual learning platform designed to enhance the experience of medical education in low- and middle-income countries and elevate the capacity for cleft care worldwide.
For decades Operation Smile, Inc. has worked with local professionals, hospitals and governments to create unique solutions for the global surgery shortage. Supported by more than 6,000 volunteers from over 60 nations, we provide quality cleft care in over 30 countries across the globe. In addition to delivering safe surgery, the organization hosts 100’s of educational programs each year, with the intent to combat geographic isolation and increase the number of skilled providers worldwide.
When the COVID-19 pandemic stalled in-country programs and put a pause on learning, we developed Operation Smile Academy, a competency based e-learning and remote mentorship service for all cleft-care professionals. Together with long-standing volunteers, international clinicians and renowned specialists, OSA offers a network of hard-to-replicate educational content, accessible from anywhere. OSA engages learners on every skill level across a variety of specialties including surgery, anesthesia, nursing, nutrition, oral health, speech therapy, and psychosocial support. This interdisciplinary approach to training promotes a global understanding of team-based care among our providers, guaranteeing each child receives the absolute best treatment possible.
