Carolyn R. Rogers-Vizena MD

Plastic Surgery

Dr. Carolyn R. Rogers-Vizena has been a valued member of the Boston Children’s Hospital staff since 2013, specializing in a wide range of pediatric plastic surgery procedures. Her clinical expertise encompasses cleft lip and palate, velopharyngeal dysfunction, adolescent breast surgery, and spina bifida-related wound care and trunk reconstruction. Additionally, she contributes her skills to the craniofacial anomalies and microtia programs, offering facial reconstruction and Medpor® ear reconstruction services.

Beyond her specialized focus, Dr. Rogers-Vizena is dedicated to general pediatric plastic surgery, providing comprehensive care for lacerations, skin lesions, and other conditions with a patient and family-centered approach. She has also embraced telemedicine to reduce the burden of travel for follow-up visits, demonstrating her commitment to accessible healthcare.

Dr. Rogers-Vizena’s passion for advancing her field is evident in her research and leadership roles. As the Associate Clinical Director for Special Effects and Materials Science in the Boston Children’s Simulator program, she has developed a high-fidelity cleft lip simulator for teaching and research purposes. Her ongoing research, funded by the Plastic Surgery Foundation, explores the use of cleft lip simulation in resident education and surgeon competency evaluation. Furthermore, she serves as the Scientific Co-Chair for the International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement cleft lip and palate benchmarking program, leading Boston Children’s prospective cleft outcomes program to improve the wellbeing of affected individuals.
